Our third issue of "The Voice" newspaper came out two days and it both some good and bad. This issue had a big political feature considering this will be the last issue that comes that before we the people crown a new leader of the free world. We gave notice about all the propositions that registered voters will be able to decide upon by giving exact definitions of what each one is about, thanks Kalie. Which actually helps me because I have an idea about several of them but now I really know ahead of time about what to vote for. Kalie got interviews from other Cabrillo students about who were they going to be voting for and why and I think she did a real good job but all the interviews she did were of men and like Mr. Kava has said "get the dogs name" meaning get all the details.
She didn't have any women's views and me as a reader would like to here what both sides have to say. Especially when there is a chance that we could have a female vice president and even a possible president and I want to see what my opposite sex say about that. No real knock against her I think she did a good job she just didn't cover all her sources. That's where the controversey over this issue starts with a lack of women's opinions and leads to sort of a controvsersal attack of Sarah Palin.
I think that throughout the issue we gave an attempt to remain unbissed which I think is good because with such a sensitive topic as politics you really need to attempt to stay in the middle. Until I finished reading page 14 then I take a peek of the back cover and it has a picture of Sarah Palin in a garbage can. Emily our editor and chief says that we were in total need for a last second page to finish the paper and it was all we had. That to me made us look like hipacrits and I am not a fan what so ever of that last page (and I'm not going to voter for McCain). It wasn't funny it just made all our good unbissed research, interviews, and opinions that we had in the paper were for nothing because we flat out trash (no pun intended) Palin.
It has happened and maybe that can bring some more attention to our paper which in that is good because I have learned that there is no such thing as bad publicity. I maybe a sportswriter and the sports editor but my name is attached to an issue that I am not proud of. Once our next issue comes out hopefully this one will be long forgotten and I can continue to do my thing giving all Cabrillo students top notch sports report. That's what I do and with my basketball preview coming out next issue I want to make clear that we have a pretty serious basketball programs at this school. Then I cannot forget the volleyball team and how they have not even lost game let alone a match in conference this year so they deserve a good write up and I will do my best to make sure they get the attention they rightfully deserve with a record of 18-5, 5-0 in conference play.

Longer Day Equals Better Pay Off
Today all of us at the Cabrillo Voice got together to put together our second issue of the semester. We all knew that we would have a better issue because of all of the experience we got from our first issue. Our first issue wasn't all that bad but we knew that we had plenty of room to improve the second issue. Emily our editor and chief at The Voice made templates made for us which made life 10x easier from the first issue. It did but it made my co-editor Tanya and I more meticulous about the layout of the sports section.
Tanya's story only had one real source and she wasn't able to contact that source so that left the sports section with a bit of a whole. She sure made up for not having the story by utimately creating and being the main editor of both pages. Sure I did all the digging for my story with interviews and arranging the pictures and Thomas did his thing with his story but it was Tanya that kept the train going. We gave her the ball and she ran with it. We supplied her with all the stories and pictures and she put them all together.
The pictures were clearer and she helped me label them with proper and clear titles. I got some good reviews for the last paper but I felt there were tons of room for improvement and I feel we really did with this issue. It took more time getting everyting put in their proper place but I fell that everything came out at least 10x better. Can't forget to thank Randi and Chad for assisting us with editing the pictures. I may be ultimately the one responsible for the section but like a good manager you are only as good as the team around you and I feel with the team I have around me we have the ability to keep moving forward in a positive direction.
